About Our Logo
The
logo is comprised of each first letter of the foundations
name (which is pronounced like the word "COFFEE") with
the Sankofa bird centered in the letter O. The bird is based on
an Akan mythical bird called Sankofa which flies forwards with its
head turned backwards. This reflects the belief that the past serves
as a guide for planning the future, or the wisdom in learning from
the past in building the future.
The symbol also represents WISDOM, KNOWLEDGE, and the PEOPLE'S HERITAGE.
It comes from the Akan aphorism: Se wo were fi na wosan kofa a,
yenkyi. The literal translation means There is nothing wrong
with learning from hindsight.
The name SANKOFA is derived from the words SAN (return), KO (go),
FA (look, seek and take). This symbolizes the Akan's quest for knowledge
with the implication that the quest is based on critical examination,
and intelligent and patient investigation.
The Akan people are ancestors of the Asante Tribe and migrated
from other parts of Africa into what is known as present-day Ghana.
They believe that there must be movement with times but as the forward
march proceeds, the gems must be picked from behind and carried
forward on the march.
The tagline A good education will make a difference
was created to draw attention to improving the quality of education
that focuses on commitment and actions of students and teachers.
Students should have high expectations for their college education
and their school preparation for it.
